  1. IMPORTANT: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS!!
  2.  
  3.      To enjoy the reports in the archive ORIGIN15.ZIP,
  4. unarchive the ZIP file to a directory of your choice. These
  5. documents are designed to be viewed and printed with REPLICA,
  6. a state of the art document viewing and printing system for
  7. Windows that a) eliminates the need to own any Windows word
  8. processor; and b) preserves most of the formatting, design and
  9. graphics which were part of the original document. Understand
  10. that REPLICA is not a word processor: text is locked and you cannot 
  11. edit or change anything. 
  12.  
  13.      FIRST, unarchive origin15.zip to a directory of choice. A 
  14. sensible name for such a directory would be \origins. Then start 
  15. Windows if you have not already done so. Open up the directory 
  16. tree display and display the file list window for \origins.                         
  17.      YOU MUST FIRST START REPLICA ITSELF WHICH IS EMBEDDED IN THE
  18. FILE INTRO15.EXE. YOU MUST BEGIN WITH INTRO15.EXE AS REPLICA
  19. IS NOT CONTAINED IN ANY OF THE OTHER FILES IN THIS ARCHIVE.
  20. If you attempt to view .rpl files in any other text viewer or word
  21. processsor they either will not open or you will view a great deal 
  22. of garbage on screen and a total loss of formatting and design.  
  23. SIMPLY DOUBLE CLICK ON THE ICON FOR INTRO15.EXE IN THE FILE LISTING 
  24. OF THE \ORIGINS DIRECTORY DISPLAY. THAT IS ALL THERE IS TO IT!  REPLICA 
  25. will start and display the file intro15.repl which is embedded in the 
  26. file intro15.exe. You may now view each of the documents that comprise 
  27. the 'book' Origins of Mythology by opening each within REPLICA as you 
  28. would any file from the File Menu. REMEMBER THAT EACH DOCUMENT HAS THE 
  29. EXTENSION .RPL NOT .DOC. 
  30.         You may, of course, set up a program item within a group of 
  31. your choice for intro15.exe as you would for any executable. You may 
  32. print any range of pages, or an entire .rpl document, as you would with 
  33. any Windows application by using Print Setup and Print in the usual 
  34. manner. There is on-line Help on the menu bar of REPLICA if you lose your 
  35. way. I strongly recommend that you take a few minutes and read the on-line 
  36. help with REPLICA so that you can orient yourself about viewing, 
  37. selecting text or graphics for cut and past clipboard operations, and 
  38. printing.

  40. ORIGINS OF MYTHOLOGY
  41.  
  42.         There are five files in the shareware archive of
  43. ORIGINS OF MYTHOLOGY: intro15.exe, readme15.rpl, mat15sh.rpl,
  44. orig15sh.rpl, and regist15.rpl and I recommend that you read them 
  45. in this order. YOU MUST START WITH INTRO15.EXE AS EXPLAINED ABOVE 
  46. IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE REPLICA VIEWING SYSTEM. Readme15 will give
  47. you some general background about several issues and introduce
  48. you to Reality Software. Mat15sh and orig15sh are shareware
  49. previews of the research reports that comprise the heart of the 
  50. 'book'. Regist15 is a registration form should you wish to
  51. acquire a copy of the complete study. In the registered
  52. version of ORIGINS OF MTYHOLOGY, which is not archived, matse15.rpl 
  53. and origin15.rpl are the complete research reports.

  55. ABOUT REPLICA
  56.  
  57.     REPLICA does not preserve the original margins of most 
  58. documents in that the right and left margins on the REPLICA 
  59. viewing screen are usually wider than on the original document 
  60. when it is viewed with the word processor that created it. 
  61. If you find the font size displayed by REPLICA to be smaller than 
  62. you wish, check to see that your video mode is 640 x 480.  Such a 
  63. resolution will correct most readablity problems. REPLICA is
  64. machine intensive. I doubt it will run on a 286 and performance
  65. will be slow on a 386SX.
  66.  
  67.     Understand that this is the first commercial release of 
  68. REPLICA and the programming challenge was formidable!  If you 
  69. don't believe it, ask your friendly neigborhood Windows programmer. 
  70. Reflect that no cross application document viewing system was 
  71. available for Windows until late fall '93 even though the need was 
  72. apparent years ago. Play with the buttons on the tool bar and drop the 
  73. View menu and notice the many choices there.  Enjoy the presentation 
  74. and reflect that you now can explore state-of-the-art document viewing 
  75. for Windows.  I welcome any and all comments, criticisms and suggestions: 
  76. see addresses on the registration form. Please note the large size of 
  77. this shareware archive and realize that .exe and .rpl files do not 
  78. undergo much compression by PKZIP: the total size of all files in 
  79. this archive is about 1.3Meg.  Be certain you have adequate space on 
  80. your drive to hold these files and for ease of use they should all be put 
  81. in the same directory. The registered version of ORIGINS OF
  82. MYTHOLOGY V1.5 is only available on two high density disks.
  83.  
  84.     The shareware version of REPLICA is embedded within intro15.exe 
  85. and includes an extensive Help file. You may view an unlimited number 
  86. of REPLICA documents (.rpl) but you can only create 5 (five) REPLICA 
  87. document files of your own.  Registration of REPLICA is required if 
  88. you wish to create an unlimited number of .rpl files.  See About ... 
  89. on the Help menu. Reality Software does sell REPLICA: you must
  90. contact Farallon Software directly. If you are interested in document 
  91. publishing for Windows I highly recommend REPLICA.
